The Church itself is an Evangelical Congregational Church.

A Church because we are a fellowship of Christians who meet together to worship God and desire to share with others the Good News concerning God's Way of Salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Evangelical because we believe that the whole Bible is the written Word of God and therefore our sole authority in all matters of belief and conduct.

Congregational because we are free from outside control but acknowledge our direct responsibility to the Head of the Church - the Lord Jesus Christ.

Some people think that Christianity is a crutch, a soft option for those who cannot cope. The media image of Church helps to reinforce this view. Church Ministers are often pictured as weak, spineless individuals who could profit from several months with a bullworker and several years doing a proper job. Often in soap operas, Christianity has hardly been portrayed in a flattering way.

The Christianity of the Bible is a different matter altogether. Jesus called people to follow him in a wholehearted way, and there was always a cost. For one rich young man who came to Jesus, it was the thing most precious to him - his money and possessions. If the rich young man is serious about a relationship with God, he must do something very difficult: " sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in Heaven. The come, follow Me." (Mark 10v21)

For other people, it was different things. But one thing was certain, you could not follow Jesus of Nazereth and stay the same.

The same has been true through history. Countless thousands of men and women have died of being imprisoned for their faith in Jesus. A German Christian, Dietricht Bonhoeffer, who was to die in a Nazi concentration camp, summed it up: "When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die."

To become a Christian is no soft option. The rich young man had a choice. What was to dictate his life from now on? His money and possessions or the claims of Jesus Christ? He had come to Jesus for an easy life, he left with the whole of his life questioned and in doubt. Faced with the man who is God, change had to occur if he was to follow Jesus. Who do you think Jesus is? A good teacher or the Son of God who can tell you how to run your life? If you think He is more than a good teacher, then your life has to change.

Many people down through the centuries and all over the world have made the connection between the man called Jesus and their everyday life. Yes, He was a good religious teacher but He was so much more than that.

Colonel James Irwin, one of the first astronauts to walk on the moon's surface, is in no doubt: "The greatest miracle is not that man stood on the moon, it is that God came and stood on the earth." The reason why this event took place is that God wants us to live in proper relationship with Him and in Jesus Christ He not only calls us back into that relationship but provides the way for us to do so. As Jesus died on the cross, he took the death penalty we deserve for everything wrong we've ever done, so that we can be forgiven, and our relationship with God restored.

Won't you come and hear the Christian message for yourself? We extend a warm invitation to you, whatever your beliefs or non-beliefs. Enquirers are most welcome, our chapel is not just a place for believers only, but a place where you can come and consider, and find out for yourself about the most important matters you can ever consider.

It is not our aim to "button-hole" you or "convert" you. It is God's work, not ours, to show people His truth, but we would welcome you most sincerely and ask you to give yourself the opportunity of thinking about your life, your soul, your relationship with God and your death.
