Welcome to our Village Next events: Introduction: The village of Thorpe Morieux is in the County of Suffolk which is in the East Anglia region of the United Kingdom. Before the Norman Conquest of 1066 the village was known as Torp, its Danish name under the Danegeld, and would appear to have been a small collection of homesteads. After the Conquest the land was given to Odo, the Bishop of Bayeux, King William's half-brother and the man who commissioned the weaving of the Bayeux Tapestry. By 1200, Roger de Muryeus 'held a fee here' and the word Morieus or Morieux was added to Thorp to complete the village name by the early 14th Century.
On this site you will find via the links many articles both historical and current and we hope will give you a good insight into how the village has evolved over the centuries as well as the many events which are held in and around the village.
