The Mothers' Union

United Benefice of Rattlesden, Brettenham, Hitcham and Thorpe Morieux

How the Mothers' Union started:

The Mothers' Union was started in England in 1876 by Mary Sumner, an Anglican clergyman's wife. She wished to enable mothers to fulfil their responsibility for the material and spiritual wellbeing of their children. Since inception we have grown to be the largest world-wide women's organisation. All our members world-wide are committed to supporting the family in all respects and have played an important role in the religious and social policies of many countries.

The Mothers' Union today

With over a million members, the Mothers' Union is the largest Christian women's organisation in the world with members in over 60 countries and a distinctive tradition of personal links and relationships world-wide. United by the common commitment to Christian family life and by the custom of the cycle of midday prayers we are active in our own local communities in all sorts of ways fitting our activities to those local priorities and needs. The world-wide headquarters is based at Mary Sumner House in Westminster, London.

The website address is: http://www.themothersunion.org
